An antitrust
suit brought by C&J challenging a 2013 secret deal between the owners of the Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune may soon be over. "We are optimistic that the sale of the Tribune to Paul Huntsman will resolve our client's concerns," said C&J attorney Karra Porter. "We will be examining the terms of the deal with that goal in mind."
The client, Citizens for Two Voices, helped stabilize the Tribune with its June 2014 lawsuit, Porter said. The group agreed to two stays of the lawsuit to help facilitate the potential sale. The group refused a third extension in January and began pressuring the defendants to produce key documents. "I'd still like to see those documents," Porter said, "but a resolution that keeps the Tribune alive is the ultimate goal."
